From the Driver’s Seat – April 2021

How time flies. We have now spent over a year in various stages of restrictions in not only our personal lives, but in the life of our club as well. In March 2020, we met in-person at Vincenzo’s while all around us a scramble was on about a virus seemingly moving in on us from many directions. Next, politicians and scientists bombarded us with their advise and edicts and toilet paper disappeared from the market shelves. We all scrambled to maintain normal lives while being prohibited from working, traveling, and even seeing loved ones. We were handed a mess.

Each of us adapted to the situation in our own way. Our club by-laws state, “members shall meet for a regular business meeting the first week of each month on a consistent day of the week as determined by the Standing Rules” and we found a way, virtually with Zoom. We had good attendance and our meetings went on. We were still without our events and monthly social gathering, so a social Zoom get together was introduced. That evolved into Maintenance Thursdays and many of us socially gathered outdoors. Our annual picnic was cancelled. The July Fourth Parade was cancelled. Car Show planning never got started and the Christmas Party never even had a chance of taking place. What a year!

Still, our club lived on. You renewed your membership. Club members stepped up and filled board positions. We found creative ways to get together with events that didn’t draw scrutiny from our keepers. I am proud of all of you for hanging in throughout the challenges we continue to face.

Restrictions still continue, but not nearly as stringent as we have experienced. We are enjoying more runs and have even been allowed to eat together again. This past month we had an excellent run to Ojai with TWENTY Corvettes. We provided our own food and ate together in Soule Park. It was a terrific day. We also enjoyed Taste of the Town with 34 of us getting together for a meal together. March was good indeed.

This time of year we all need to do our part to keep this great club running. It is approaching time to renew our memberships for 2021 – 2022, hopefully with a better year ahead. Club board elections are also on the horizon, so nominations for all positions and board elections are coming soon.

We are still without a regular location to meet and hoped to do so once again in-person at Bunnin Chevrolet for our April business meeting on April 1st, but we have been delayed by restrictions for a bit longer. We are looking forward to May doing so, so bear with us and let’s get together one more time on Zoom for the coming meeting. The link will be provided.

Be sure to thank all of your board members for what they do to keep our club moving forward despite the challenges. I appreciate the entire board and the membership as well. Let’s all keep on keeping on!

Mike
