From the Driver’s Seat – May 2021

Thanks to all of you who have stuck together with us in the SCVCC through a very trying year. Twelve months ago we were told to stay put for 15 days to make things better for us all and we know how that turned out. But things are brighter now, we all have “bathroom tissue” again and are rapidly moving from purple to red, to orange and now even yellow. Those are tiers, but those colors are also represented by Corvettes in our club! We have learned a lot. Corvette owners have learned a new meaning for Zoom and we have improvised on ways to communicate and even to get together. We are fine and getting better, better than many because of our common bond and focus on the brighter side.

So, a new and better April has come and gone and we are seeing more light ahead as we emerge from the tunnel we have been passing through. April offered us a well-attended Taste of the Town at the Black Bear Diner where we sat elbow to elbow once again with no ill effect. Then, twenty-five of us traveled north to San Luis Obispo for an enjoyable weekend together enjoying the experience of a caravan and overnighter that we have missed for so many months. I am personally grateful for the opportunities we have in our club that have given us something to look forward to throughout the year.

Our Activities team is continuing to plan activities and events. Our Newsletter guy is reporting all that needs to be reported. Communications keeps us all informed. Our Secretary is assuring a good record is kept of all our business. Our Treasurer is keeping good track of our finances and at the same time as Quartermaster, has come up with a new marketing concept. Our Membership Chair is busy too handling those new requests to join us in our great club. Then your President and VP are pleased with the great board we have. With that mentioned though, now is again the time for board elections and we are looking forward to more talented people from the club to step forward to lead us. Be sure to vote in May when you receive your ballots.

May will also begin our membership renewal period. We maintained an excellent membership through the time of restrictions and I hope you all will continue with the club as we return to more normalcy. The board has recommended that for the 2021 – 2022 club year, regular member dues be reduced to $35.00 and dues for associates be $10.00. We will be accepting renewals through May and June and will even have more new members coming aboard soon as well.

While we still do not have a local meeting location, we are grateful for the opportunity to again hold our next monthly business meeting at Bunnin Chevrolet – Fillmore. To conform with their business hours, we need to begin our meeting at 6:00 PM. Several chairs are available at the dealership; however it is a good idea to bring your personal chair to assure you have a place to sit. I hope to see many of you there this coming Thursday, May 6th!
The SCVCC is back on the road!
