June 2021

May has passed and we will see summer arrive this month. With June here, the word is that the restrictions we have been living under for many months will be lifted. I am personally grateful and have had the opportunity lately to see how others outside California are handling life in varying levels from state to state. I think we are doing fine here and will again be a club that is doing things again.

In May, we had the opportunity to meet in-person once again at Bunnin Chevrolet in Fillmore. Leo Bunnin was present and was gracious in offering us the continuing use of the showroom. We have continued exploring our community for a site to accommodate our body as we emerge from meeting restrictions. Vincenzo’s is open to our meeting in their small dining room; however it will only hold a maximum of 50 people. With 44 attending our May meeting at Bunnin and more members eager to again gather together, your board currently recommends enjoying the hospitality of Bunnin Chevrolet and for the current time continue holding our general meetings at their Fillmore dealership.

In May we again had a well-attended Taste of the Town, this time at Stonefire Grill. Then there was an excellent turnout for the run to Don Gus in Lancaster followed by the continuation to Red Rock Canyon. I was sorry to miss the event as Judy and I were finishing a trip to Breckenridge for a final period of snowy weather before the summer heat.

Our Activities team is continuing to plan activities and events. With that, I must mention that we all have to keep safety as well as the good image of our club in mind as we venture out again on our runs, events, and trips. People notice us because our Corvettes are worth noticing and then they notice our driving and our actions as well. The public sees our club name and logo on our attire and will remember negative if they see it. I am not club parent, but I will always stress safety and positive behavior when we gather or travel together. Thanks to all who practice the same and assure those traits are followed by all.

Our Newsletter guy Scott Gregory has not stepped down, but has work obligations requiring absence from his duties with us for a short period. I find myself assuming the newsletter job this month, but am hoping there are some in our club who are willing to take over for a short period until Scott returns. Let me know and I will show you how easy it is and you will surely get another dangle for your name tag.

Our yearly club election has concluded. There were no new nominations for board positions for the 2021 – 2022 club year. Those currently serving will continue on the board for another year. There will however likely be changes coming in the next year as some currently serving will step down. Start now thinking how you can serve your board in the next term.

In May we begin our membership renewal period. We have had an excellent early response for membership renewal and it looks like our club will continue into our 43rd year. If you have not yet renewed your membership for the 2021 – 2022 club year, I urge you to do so soon, prior to June 30th. Regular member dues were reduced to $35.00 this year and dues for associates is $10.00.

As we meet together again at Bunnin this month, please bring a chair since available seating is limited and also be mindful that we need to clear out after the meeting to allow the business to close. See you there.
