From the Driver’s Seat – May 2024
It has indeed been an honor and even my pleasure to serve as the President of the best Corvette club in these parts for well over six years. Our members are from all walks of life. Our membership remains high with not only long-time members, but a constant influx of new people eager to share in the Corvette experience we all enjoy.
I have been active on our Board of Directors since 2010, first as Vice President and then as Newsletter Editor before election to President in 2018 by a vote of the membership at a General Meeting when our chief executive announced his imminent move away from California. My focus then and throughout my several terms has been to put the best interests of the SCVCC first and to ensure that the Club remain vital and fun.
I will always be grateful for the confidence and support I received over those years from all who stepped up to serve on our Boards of Directors during those several terms. Many thanks to all of
you who served.
Our club faced many challenges throughout its history, and I was faced with a number of thus between 2018 and 2024. We had changes in meeting location several times and even no place to
meet for several months. We met at a country club, a pizza restaurant, parking lots, a hotel, a dealership showroom, on the internet and now at a bowling alley. You all made it happen when we
had to adjust to the challenges of the time. Thanks to you all for that too.
Doing the right thing to comply with California law even presented decisions to me and the Board. The tough calls were made, and the Club continues in good standing as when founded 46 years
ago. My intent has always been to leave the SCVCC in excellent condition and despite struggles, it is.
Now, new leadership is about to take the helm of our SCVCC. I am grateful for the willingness of our newly elected officers, and I pledge to continue as needed to make the transition smooth. My only
hope is that additional members will answer the need to fill the several Board Officer positions that remain open following the Board election held in May. Please step forward to fill the positions of
Secretary, Membership Chair, Newsletter Editor, and Communications Officer, all still vacant.
Save me a seat in the back row in upcoming meetings and continue to Save the Wave!
Mike
