From the Driver’s Seat – August 2022
Can you believe that we are marking our one year anniversary meeting at Santa Clarita Lanes? It is hard to believe a year has passed already. Our club is fine. We seem to be settled in and we are continuing to increase our membership. All in all, I say well done SCVCC!
Lately, I find myself considering what a great time in history I have been enjoying. Personally, I go back well over fifty years as a Corvette owner and I feel sorry for those who have missed out on the opportunity you and I have had with this wonderful car, the Corvette. With the plan for ending the sale of our beloved internal combustion powered autos in California, I thought of Patton’s speech when he said something like this, “You may be thankful that twenty years from now when you are sitting by the fireplace with your grandson on your knee and he asks you is it true that you never drove an electric car, you can look him straight in the eye and say, Son, your Granddaddy only drove a Corvette!”
We have a fun caravan to Menefee this month to check out the Motte Historic Car Museum. It sounds like a fun ride to a new location for me. I hope you enjoy the getaway. Thanks to the Nolan’s for the plan and always to our Activities team for keeping us on the road!
September 11th took on an important meaning twenty-one years ago and it remains a time of remembrance for us all. A local event for remembering 9/11 has come to my attention. It is the Patriots Day Car Show on Saturday, September 10, from 8 AM – 12 PM at the Higher Vision church parking lot at 28776 The Old Road. ALL cars are welcome and are FREE to enter. Breakfast is by donation of your choice. Congressman Mike Garcia will be present. I will be sorry to miss you while away in the great state if Texas!
While our club is doing well, some of our members are missing due to different health issues. I urge you to reach out to those you haven’t seen in a while. They miss us and we do miss them. If you need a number, let me know.
Be sure to mark September 1 on your calendar and join us at Santa Clarita Lanes for our next meeting. The meeting begins at 7:30, so come earlier if you can to catch-up with you Corvette friends.
