From the Driver’s Seat – July 2021
What do you think about June? It was a little hot for me and I missed the “June Gloom”, but I was certainly not in the gloomy mood I was in last year. Let’s forget 2020 and move on. Summer has arrived and restrictions are few and I am almost happy again. And with that, we have completed another club year in the SCVCC. It was brutal but we have pretty much emerged from the tunnel.
In June, we had our second in-person post-restriction general meeting at Bunnin-Fillmore. I want to thank all who attended for helping to make it go smoothly. It feels great to finally meet together and the showroom has worked well. Our numbers remain high and we have room to accommodate even more who can make the drive our the 126 to join us. Following the opening of Café Leo at the dealership we hope to add the availability of in-house food to our meetings there.
We had another well-attended Taste of the Town at China Wok in June. Our third food drive at Sam’s Club to benefit the Santa Clarita Valley Food Pantry was held on June 5th and the proceeds were again outstanding. Thanks to all of our volunteers and to Sam’s for helping make it happen. Our long-awaited club picnic was on June 19th and I pronounce it a success. Our Activities team assured every detail was perfect. The BBQ lunch was delicious and the games and dancing may have even called for liniment afterwards. I heard numerous praises about the day, so great job organizers and attendees.
Our Newsletter guy Scott Gregory is still on hiatus so you must suffer through another of your retired newsletter editor’s issues once again. Your help is more than welcome as we wait for Scott’s return to the keyboard.
Our 2021 – 2022 club year has now commenced with last year’s board members all returning to their same positions, some wearing multiple hats. Changes will likely be the next year and your Quartermaster has made it possible for you to order some great custom club wear, even your own President shirt. Start now thinking how you can serve your board in the next term.
Our membership renewal period ended on June 30 with several members who have not yet renewed for the 2021 – 2022 club year. While we have had an excellent response to renewal reminders, those who want to continue membership should do so during the “grace period” to continue in active member status. Regular member dues were reduced to $35.00 this year and dues for associates is $10.00.
As we meet again at Bunnin on July 8th, please bring a chair since available seating is limited. Also, continue to be mindful that we need to clear out after the meeting to allow the business to close. See you there.
Mike
