From the Driver’s Seat – August 2021
Although the Bunnin Fillmore grand opening on June 30th delayed our July meeting to the following week, on July 8th, we had another terrific turnout in the Bunnin showroom. We found that while “Leo’s Café” had passed Ventura County inspection, it was going to be open just for breakfast and lunch to our disappointment. I should mention that the grand opening was a grand event, with dignitaries providing accolades, a great band who rivaled the Hollies with my request and a choice of Laird’s BBQ or made to order tacos with all of the trimmings. Several of our members attended and were delighted with the invitation.
By now, most of you have likely been notified or at least heard rumor that we will be trying out a new site proposed for our monthly business meeting venue. The location is the off-track Watch and Wager room at Santa Clarita Lanes , 21615 Soledad Cyn Road, Santa Clarita (across from Mountasia). The location is centrally located, offers plenty of parking, has food and beverage available, and great air conditioning. We have scheduled the location for our August General Meeting on August 5th. Your comments are welcome, so let your board members know what you think so we can move forward making this our new meeting site if the board so approves. It has been a long haul trying to locate a suitable meeting location, and this might be THE one.
Our membership renewal process for 2021-2022 has been completed. We find our club with a few less members than the maximum but that is fine. Some have moved, some have other focuses and for others it was just time to move on. Our membership still remains high and our club is moving into a new club year with members who are active and want to be here and still having some wiggle room so those new people wanting to join us will not linger on the waiting list for months. We are good.
It is not the time to rest on our laurels though by any means. We are back on the road and we all want some fun things together after the period of restrictions. Help our activities people with your ideas and even be bold enough to plan and lead an event like our very successful Freedom Run in July. Deep down inside of everyone there is a leader waiting to share his talent to make our already excellent club even better.
Our Newsletter Editor is still busy with the demands of work that many of us no longer experience. The newsletter was once again put together by the substitute editor, me. It is not difficult, but to date, the input from members has been little. I continually wonder why there are not more who are eager to pitch in for the benefit of all of our membership.
As we move on with hopefully a stable and local meeting site and gather in greater numbers, it is my hope that we feel an even greater camaraderie than in the past year and a half as we were restricted. With that, let’s work together, have fun, and move forward.
One final word on the Santa Clarita Lanes location. They have food available and the county doesn’t demand masking of those eating. Take small bites! Lastly, the owner requests for health reasons that we do not bring in outside food.
I’m eager to see you at the bowling alley, but I’ll leave my ball home, this time.
Mike
