Driven! The 1,064-HP Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 Is Patently Absurd
1,000-plus hp, $175,000: Is the most powerful production Corvette of all time the handful you might expect?.
Mac Morrison : Writer | William Walker : Photographer | May 30, 2025
Make no mistake, COTA is a satisfyingly special place to drive any quick and capable car, but when Chevrolet told us it was holding the official first drive event for the 2025 Corvette ZR1 at the flowing 3.41-mile, 20-turn Texas home of the Formula 1 United States Grand Prix? There was a moment of pause and outright uncertainty…

From the Driver’s Seat – March 2024
It is still snowing in our local mountains, but officially, Spring is here. We have started Daylight Saving Time again, nobody has heard anything from Dr Fauci in a long time, and you all have Corvettes, so there is really no excuse for staying home. I am anxious to see many of you who are still hibernating in your warm places somewhere.
We still have monthly meetings on the first Thursday, thanks to Santa Clarita Lanes and Taste of the Town on the third Thursday, just because. Our Activities team is very busy planning events and runs and even invites YOU to contribute suggestions and leadership in that area. Come and join us…you are missed.
This past month we again had new prospective members checking out the club at our meeting. It is great to be able to share the Corvette experience with others and we have room for more. There are many Corvette owners in our community who haven’t joined us yet, so let them know about our club.
In between the storms, we had some dry periods in March and many of us enjoyed getting together in, what else, our Corvettes! On March 16, we were given a special tour of the new Santa Clarita Los Angeles County Sheriff Station on Golden Valley. Not many get to see the jail by going through the front door. The LASD is an important asset to our community, and we thank them for their contribution and our safety. Our long-awaited run to Ojai was a Sunday event on the 24th. Our numbers were small, but our enjoyment was large. Thanks to our Activities team for making it happen.
In April, we have an overnight get away to Cambria. There is still time to get on the list and join the run and fun. Corvettes are made to be driven and a weekend together adds to the enjoyment. We are also getting together for the KHTS Home and Garden Show at Central Park on Sunday, April 28th. It is a great opportunity to show our Corvettes to the community and maybe recruit at the same time!
April is time to begin our election process for club leadership as well. We will be accepting nominations for board director positions and preparing ballots for the 2024 – 2025 club year. Your input and upcoming votes are important. This is your club. Your vote is your voice.
Once again, thank you all for your continuing membership and support. Do not hesitate to address any concerns to your board members.
And hey, Save the Wave!
Mike
